What I love about sewing is that you can imagine a wonderful piece of clothing, buy the fabric and make it exactly as you want it. You don’t have to compromise on any details as you would with ready to wear. I also love it when I see an item of clothing in a shop that I really like but that may be too big or too small for me, but I can still buy it because I can alter it to fit using my sewing skills.
3. What do you get out of sewing?The freedom to wear exactly what I want, the satisfaction of making something from nothing. When I’m wearing my creations I feel like an artist exhibiting my work!4. What is your favourite and what is your least favourite thing about sewing?I love the cutting. I love the sound of the scissors cutting through the fabric. I tend to be a bit happy-go-lucky with the scissors and often cut without measuring which is why I have extra length tacked back on some of my creations, whoops!

Much to my dismay, summer only lasts so long and cold weather always seems to be right around the corner. We walked into The Highline Ballroom at the Standard Hotel, and were instantly encapsulated by an amber-y scent wafting through the air. It turns out Tara created a signature Study NY scent with perfumer Amanda Walker. The scent is actually a lightweight luxurious blend of organic ginger, cedar, basil, allspice, clove & other rare botanicals— according to Amanda of A Perfume Organic. The smell, which reminded me of my amber-wearing-days in high school, complimented the platform stage with models standing amongst old-school classroom desks, and a large teacher’s desk at center front, covered with bright red apples.
