For 20 years, nothing. Then, last Halloween, I decided to make my Fiona dress (from Shreck) with green IKEA curtain fabric. I did two huge rectangles, sew them together, and then I pinched uneven darts on myself.For a few months, nothing! After receiving my first sewing machine, I started my first project this April 2010. It is on this website. After ripping way too many stitches, I was really proud of the end result. And I still enjoy wearing that dress.

But there is just something about the stretchy stuff that seems to inspire dread in the most intrepid sewing enthusiasts. I’m always amazed at some of my very accomplished sewing friends who avoid sewing knits unless they have access to a serger. They’d rather hand pad-stitch a lapel than contemplate sewing a simple t-shirt. No doubt sergers are great tools and we love them – but they are not necessary for creating fabulous knit fashions!
Since I am a bit more curvy around the waist I knew that the thin jersey wouldn’t look good over my hips, so I decided to add diagonal panels from the waist angled down towards my hip. I simply drew a line starting at waistline along the side seam and ended it at center front and back at hipline.
