I sewed a muslin out of a fabric remnant, fit it on my own dress form and started pinning, altering and tailoring the dress until it looked exactly how I wanted it to look. Some of my original ideas went out the window because they just didn’t translate off the page, but as I tweaked and fiddled, the dress came together in my hands to satisfy my designer’s eye.
The highlight though was meeting so many members. It really was the best feeling to have one of you come up and tell us that you love our site. It was also nice to get feedback from you, thank you for all your suggestions and know that we have taken them to heart and discussed them in a meeting yesterday. I must say California was a very welcoming city. One surprise was the temperature; having to wear a sweater was certainly a welcome change from sweltering New York. As many of you know, I am an avid – sometimes obsessive – collector of a variety of vintage items. Over the years, a number of wonderful feedsack samples have ended up in my collection. Subsequently, these feedsack designs ended up influencing a number of items at indygo Junction, including our Pieced Pincushions and a number of our Yo Yo patterns (see them here and here). A vintage Mother Goose feedsack inspired, not only our embroidery book, A Stitch In Time with Mother Goose, but also a line of fabrics I did for Red Rooster.
